If the MMID has a barcode, it scans just like a license!
Like many policies regarding marijuana dispensaries, each state operates differently when it comes to medical marijuana ID (MMID, sometimes referred to as MMJ) cards.
A few states (FL, MO, NJ, PA) issue cards with barcodes that use AAMVA standards. Those cards will scan just like a license, and if you are using an integration between VeriScan and your POS system, it will populate the data just like any valid ID does. This is easily accomplished using any handheld or desktop scanner with VeriScan.
Some states don't issue physical MMID cards at all (LA) but keep patient information in a registry that dispensaries can access.
Many others issue MMID cards without a scannable barcode (AR, AZ, CA, CT, DC, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, RI, SD, VT). We do offer support for reading those cards using VeriScan with Authentication using OCR technology.
In the VeriScan webhooks payload, the field for DocumentType will be populated as MMID rather than ID or DL.
